Rebuilding my old Shimino 7 speed cassette, what is the appropriate torque for the lock ring?

The cassette marked as 400kgcmf and I don't really figure it out in ....... US scale

400kgcmf should be short for kilogram-cm-force, which works out to 28.9 pound-foot of torque. This sounds about right since my 8 speed lock ring is marked as 40n-m (newton meters) which works out to an almost identical number.

Crank until it strips than back it off a 1/4 turn.

haha! I almost missed out a fun thread. I think Hollister was right the first time. 1 grunt. That's why freewheels are fun. You can tighten them as you go along.
