To the people that say they have a do-it-all 32-38lb bike. What's the largest or average amount of climbing you guys do during an all day epic.

2000 ft? 3000 ft? 5000 ft??? :eekster:

Just wondering.....

Average 2500 on my 33lb 6" rig. Its fine because it all up and all down. Its the rollin stuff, consistent up down and flats that is suffers. Prefer 5x5 for that.

my average? no idea. i think the most i've done on it is around 6k, based on another riders gps info from the ride. some of my local rides are only a few 100 feet, other rides are in the 1000's.

rides with a buttload of climbing aren't too bad on the big bike, though if the descent isn't particularly ugly/lump/droppy, then i take the hardtail instead, and have a much better climb up.

Typically around 750-1500' on average rides of 7-10 miles.

Most (so far): 5400' over 33 miles in the Ely Mountain Bike Enduro. That was plenty of climbing for one day for the 33 lb 6.6 but it handled it well and having the 6.6 for the timed downhill sections made the climbs all worth it.
I've done 12,000' over 67 miles in one day on my HH100x at the E100 in Park City but that's more of a XC/AM rig... about 27.5 lbs.

Both very efficient climbers and on a typical ride I don't notice the difference too much....but the extra weight and slower rolling tires on the 6.6 add up on an epic day of climbing.

A hair under 10000 feet, and 60 miles (3000 m, 100 km), truly all day epic ride on not-so-XC hardtail with 29 lbs.

With my 34 lbs AM bike the max. so far in 3 months was about 4500 feet on 28 mile tour (1300 m, 45 km). Hope summer brings another epic ride or two with 10000+ ft.

Average ride is about 12-15 miles with 2000-3000 feet of climbs. Should I mention I'm European from particularly hilly area? :p
