I took my wife and kids for a short hike last Sunday. I was impressed by the park as it's quite a lovely place. How is the riding there?

Used live about 2 miles from there so I rode there a ton. IMO, not enough trails there to make it a destination, but I like passing through on big midPen rides. You can link together from Alpine Rd, through Monte Bello to Saratoga gap.

White oak is fun.
I've been wondering this myself. So far I've just climbed up Montebello Rd then continued on the fire road out to the communication towers. The view from the top is incredible. The other night I chased the sun down and got to the top just as the sun was setting. I sat at that rock pile just staring into the distance. Truly a godly sight.
Start on Stevens Canyon road and link up Saratoga Gap and Long Ridge. Overall it's a fun and challenging ride.

Also, along Stevens Canyon rd to Redwood Gulch rd are big hips, wall rides, and a few jumps. I recommend wearing pads if you're going to hit a lot of them because if you crash you're on pavement.

Oh man, if only I had gotten this advice before Tuesday :madman: :madman: :madman:
Its a fun place to link up with various riding up on hwy 35. We have been starting at alpine rd and mixing in a bunch of different stuff on the way down to saratoga gap. You can easily turn it into a 20-30 mile ride.
This has peaked my curiosity. I'mma go exploring today. I'll report back. Can you ride Montebello Ridge to Indian Creek to Stevens Canyon, then link into Long Ridge/Saratoga Gap?

Yep! You can link a bunch of different preserves together to string together over 30 miles of decent riding with little doubling up...Look at the Los Trancos, Russian Ridge, Monte Bello and Long Ridge maps here (http://www.openspace.org/preserves/). You can see where they fit together.

Thanks man! I'm out the door...
I usually start from the bottom of dirt Alpine road to get there, and pass through White Oak, either to Canyon, or to Skyline. I have heard they had been given out speeding tickets on Canyon trail. Climbing out over Table Mountain.

Nice XC loop.
park at Steven's Creek Reservoir (by the dam). ride up Montebello Road. continue beyond the brown gate (now on dirt) to the top of Black Mountain. Ride down to the backpack camp. Take Old Ranch trail to Bella Vista Trail. when this intersects the Canyon trail either head uphill and link in to White Oak trail (a.k.a. "Framebreaker" trail)
or head downhill and back out the canyon trail. You can link up to the Long Ridge preserve by heading up Grizzly Flat Trail or Charcoal Road.

I've had many many good times on these trails! Old Ranch / Bella Vista trail is super fun!

Nah, Alpine road approach is much more fun, including when returning back to the car.

Loaded my ipod with some MJ, my camelback with some food and hit the road. Up Montebello Road over to Canyon Trail across Skyline on some trails out to Table Mountain. Of course I didn't ride it down :skep: Twas a good ride. Here's some shot from my ride.

My training right now is that I only get a beer after a five+ hour ride. And the rewards are so sweet!

That's all :D

that is a solid ride for a friday. that horselake is a nice spot if you go north a little bit it connects to russian ridge then north which will top out at fogerthy winery and if you continue north up the ride you can ride down windy hill and back up alpine rd to the top of page mill. The trail by fogerthy winery is a nice flowy singletrack.
