I have a Trek 4900 that I decided I want to make into a singlespeed, the only problem is I don't know where to start. What are the parts I could get that will make the conversion easy? I should also mention that I need a new rear wheel, any suggestions for a cheap rear wheel (rim brakes) would be appreciated. Thanks in advance for the help.

indeed....that link got me started....very, very well done. for what its worth, cleanest/best (IMHO), but not cheapest (~$210 for brand new wheel), for a non singlespeed specific frame, is to get a rear wheel laced to an ENO eccentric hub to serve as the chain tensioning mechanism.
