I saw a few comments a while back about someone putting a 130-140mm fork on the old version and a headset cup that slacked the HTA a bit and felt that it was pretty close to the new version. Based on reviews of the two bikes, there seems to be a pretty substantial difference in the way they ride in stock form.

I am looking to replace my Epic in the future, but don’t think $4k is going to be available anytime soon to buy a new one.

Just curious at this point!

Thanks!

I have the old bike----the biggest geo difference to me is the reach for the new bike--460 vs 423 -----nothing to be done to the old bike to imitate the new bike--for sure a longer fork makes this an even bigger diff.

You need to decide how much reach works for you---go ride some new bikes and see. Not everyone likes the longer reach bikes especially if they ride in tight conditions.
