This is it... the dead zone. It's cold, it's dark, not enough snow (in CA) and everyone is getting sick.

How are you dealing with our fate? Obviously, more mtbr time as our traffic has not dropped off at all. Is your trainer out yet? Cycling videos and mags? Bike shopping?

I get back and hamstring spasms and tightness when I'm off the bike for more than a week. It's starting I have to pedal somehow. Everyone in the household is sick too and I have to take care of them and they're trying to spread the germs to me!

Anyway, bay area weather is unusually cold these days and us wimps are not used to it. I'm trying but weekday rides are just tough.

The weekday nights are sooooo long and it's just cold and dark outside so for me I:

- waxed my car. changed oil, rotated tires
- waxed my bikes
-cleaned the garage
-cleaned my office
- played forza and gran turismo

The horror!!!

I'd be riding, but

I am waiting on a replacement front triangle. I will ride throughout the winter so long as the weather isn't too cold. Other tha that, I'm just sitting waiting for spring to arrive, as i'm not a huge cold weather fan.

well here it's the usual 75 at day and maybe 65 at night.

sending off job apps for gov't jobs like crazy--u know--gotta keep that semisoft lifestyle I learned w/ uncle sam--ha ha

weekend road ride, occasional mtb ride. rides on the trainer at the gym and home. some treadmill.
actually the riding will step up when I get back to TX.

There is a chance the Army flys me to Valencia, CA instead of Dallas (esp if I want the ability to keep some/most of my stuff in long term storage)--so I may get a chance to ride Tucson and Cloudcroft on the way to TX to job hunt. I need to say how those riding locales are around mid February.

That was mean and just plain wrong. You're making us Floridians looks bad.

I'm riding Santos this weekend and camping out. The high temps are supposed to be in the 70s and low around 50. Perfect!
Me?!? I'm not the one talking about riding Santos with temps in the 70's.;)

Mondays - spin class

Wednesdays - group nite ride...changing over to nite xc-ski with a little more snow

Weekends - Ride and freeze ......changing to xc ski (see above)

In Between - Run, Swim, and spin the hamster wheel at the local habitrail (gym).

I think my lack of sunshine madness is mostly under control........I've gone from wanting to kill myself, back to wanting to kill others, so I'm pretty sure that's good. Only 95 days till the lamb of spring arrives.

Mon, Wed, Fri, = Lifting and 30 minutes of cardio (spin bike, stairmaster, or rollers)

Tue, Thur = 2-3 hours of cardio

Sat = 1-2 hours of cardio

I need to get the snowboard worked into this somehow too.

Here in Puerto Rico the temperature only drops a bit but instead of snow we're getting a lot of rain.

In terms of riding I'm only squeezing some road miles during the week after work and Saturday and Sunday mornings a quick road ride with my kid before heading to the LBS that I'm part timing during the holidays.

Trail riding is out of the picture until the holidays are over, here they last until mid January.

Taken last Sunday

Happy Holidays to everyone!

You've seen the Single Digits F post. I just keep riding (6:30 am weekdays... later in the day on Friday and Saturday). I either dress up warm or head south. Even the dark hasn't been too funky yet this year. Gotta ride.

Slooooooooooooooooowing down....

I'm moving from riding 4-5 times per week to once per week. Its killing me. I fixed up my lights, so I'm ready for night rides, but kids/kid illness has kept me from getting out. Tomorrow we're getting 5-10" of snow. That sucks. 5-10" is too much to ride in, not enough to ski on. Hopefully by the weekend the snow machines will have smashed the snow down, so I can at least get a ride in. Ugh.

I really don't mind the cold for the most part - however, I'd really like to see more or less snow. Nothing better than a winter ride on frozen ground - maximum traction.

Some of us are just fortunate enough to live in such places. I have skipped 27 winters in a row living here in southern Arizona.

We ride 12 months out of the year, but many of you who would be envious now would not want to put up with our summer time temps of 113F and 8% humidity.

Coping just fine, thank you!

I ran outside last night near the gym along the river. According to Weather.com the windchill was around 10-11 degrees. Ack! I handled it fine except for my face. Next time I'm bringing the balaclava. The other night I forgot my cold weather gear and had to do cardio work inside the damn gym. THANK GOD for friggin' XM Radio...more specifically the ability to store 5 hours of programming on MyFi...otherwise I'd go nuts on the elliptical or recumbent bike.

I do still manage to lift a couple of nights a week. And on the weekends I either go snowshoeing or XC skiing.

I haven't had my SS out since Thanksgiving though.
:(

Once it warms back into the 20s/30s at night, then I'll be riding again.

Aw crap...I may have to go to Spinning tomorrow instead of running.

Good Post!

Other than six mountain bike rides (three of which were in Austin, TX) in the past two months, and playing in a flag football league, I've been taking it easy. My road bikes have seen no action since September. This week, I started jogging again during my lunch hour 3x per week. (heading out as soon as I send off the post) I'll get back into road riding on my lunch hour or on weekends very soon. I'm bound not to let the anual winter weight gain happen this year. Now that I'm racing on the Velodrome, it's too much work to drop the weight gained. The road bike will most likely come out of it's fall hybernation next week
