I haven't been there recently, but it's been warm and dry as a bone (at least east of the Cascades).

I'd expect it to be nice.
Use the new trail head and ride to the top of the ridge staying on trail (don't use the old highway unless you want some pavement) going clockwise. At the second fence crossing, don't cross, head Southwest (trail to the right) to the top of sandy canyon and the third fence crossing. Cross there and go right for the descent. That descent is dabomb. The dirt roads at the bottom will lead to your car.

The BLM has notified us that Dry Canyon (on the South side of HWY 20 has now been closed until August 1. Please respect this closure. There's lots of good trail on the North side on Horse Ridge proper...

Happy Trails!
Dry Canyon?

Sans. Where specifically is Dry Canyon. Looked at the map, but don't see it. That is not the natural research area, is it? Every time I do horse ridge, I have to go over two fences. Am I doing this right?

Dry Canyon is across the highway from Horse Ridge. It's where you'd turn off to go to the Badlands wilderness area, then you'd take a quick right. There's not a whole lot of riding out in Dry Canyon, even when accessible.

oops. Dry Canyon is on the NORTH side of Hwy 20, just like DF says. My bad.

Yes, you're doing it right.
I rode all of the trails at Horse Ridge last Thursday. They were FINALLY dry and in near perfect condition! There was a small amount of crusty snow on the trail from the research area east out to Old Hwy 20, but no problems. Go have a blast.........
Thanks for all the help. Had a great ride!
