I just got my bike for the first ride of year. I have a 2009 Giant Yukon FX. It's got a horrible squealing sound coming from the back. I think it's the back brake since it goes away when I squeeze the brake lever a little. I took off the back wheel and wiped the brake pads off to see if the pads may have dust on them. It worked for a while but the squeal came back. I am thinking I may need to try something else. Any ideas?

Sounds like you've got some pad rub going on there. Have you tried backing them off a bit and seeing if the problem persists?

How far should I back it off?

Yukon FXs come with Hayes mechanical brakes? If so, I have no experience with them, only Avid mechanicals.

Usually this is caused by the pads being out of alignment with the disc. Take it to your local bike shop and get them to service the brakes.
