I am looking into buying a hubset in the next week, 36 hole 150mm by 12mm, which do you think would be best, the other option is a DT swiss wheelset, but that means I would have to sell my rims. Mavic 729's. I know hadley, but don't know atomic or hope. Any info would be appreciated. JK

I've run my Hadleys for 2 seasons now with no problems at all. Great hub.
i had considered hadleys too but probably going to go with hope pro II's 150mmx12mm as fiddy ryder says it's a great bang for the buck. in a perfect world i'd probably go DT Hugis though. but then again hadleys sound absolutely sick and very annoying if they're someone elses, and not mine  oh fukk it do what you want, i can't give good advice at all.

Id go hope pro 2's. I was looking into hubs the last 2 weeks and since hadley did the 108 engagement and had some issues the went back to the original engagement which is only slightly better than the hopes (on paper) and hopes are lighter.

A few others suggested Hopes, but I'm not sure if the Pro II hubs are available in 150mm x 12mm. That size isn't listed on the Hope website, in any case. The Hadley seem good, I'd be using those or DT Swiss 440's if I was building up a big bike wheelset.

what you call this?

hopes have 24 pt engagement, nowhere near hadleys, but won't the lower engagment points put less stress on the drivetrain/linkages when blowing through the suspension?

The best of those...Hadley for sure. Faster engagement, stronger, Ti freehub body, etc. But if cost is a factor then as others said the Hope's are awesome hubs for the money. They are light but strong for their weight and are very reasonably priced for the quality you get.

Well now, my bad then. Hope may want to think about updating their website, as it is displayed here, but not here or here, which is where my first searches took me.

It can be also be confusing for the consumer when a search doesn't result in a model actually being display on the companies website in the intended country of purchase; it could make it appear that it's not available in that country.

I haven't heard of DHer's using Hope hubs, it seemed to me that Hadley was the consensus DH hub of choice. The Pro II's have also been presented to me by retailers as "lighter-duty" than the previous generation of Bulb hubs. Interesting that so many people recommend the Hopes.

Hadley replaced the 108 point with a 72 point that uses 4 pawls and a 36 tooth gear. Two pawls are offset from the others on the carrier so two opposing pawls engage at once. The 108 Hadley used 3 pawls and and a 36 tooth gear. All were offset from each other so only one pawl engaged at a time, this put extra stress on the bearing because of the out of balanced load. Hadley also offers the original 36 point engagement which has 3 pawls that engage at once on a 36 tooth gear. I have been using my 36 point Hadley for four DH race seasions. I only lubed the freehub once and had to tighten up the bearing preload two times.

Neither.Go with DT 420.Easier to service and stainless steel bearings are a nice thing to have after frying some Hadley hub bearings.

Frying bearings? Ludicrous.

DT Hubs are nice, better than Hadley - No. They are currently at the peak of the hype agenda and thats that. If you need a hub to be easier to service than a hadley - you must have nothing but thumbs.

Yes,frying bearings. They seem to work well under Cali sun but in wet enviroment they suck or at least their seals IMHO.
I personaly had used DT hubs in the last 12 years and never had any issues with them.
Tryed a pair of the hyped Hadleys and the bearings quit their live after a short period of time...also I remember that I needed some more tools to disassemble the Hadlyes.
At the DTs I can simply take off the freewheel for example with...well,my thumbs.
For me no more experiments,DT only please.

I've had the opposite experience.

I've had 2 DT hubs. Both of them died within six months. A thorough cleaning and overhaul got them rolling again. So I guess they really weren't completely trashed. The freehub is kind of sketchy on the older one (it's a Hayes one). But they're higher end hubs do look very nice. And one of the guys at our shop refuses to run anything but DT hubs. They've been flawless for him.

My Hadleys have been trouble free. I've just taken them apart once to make sure they're clean and greased. And I didn't need any special tools. An allen wrench and my fingers.
