Got a buddy looking to get a bike after 6 years of missing out. He only has twelve hundo but i think a little more could get a great 5 spot if he keeps looking. we found an 02 (with xtr, v brakes 80mm of travel)but i dont think its enough bike for him. he is 5'8 150lbs. what Turner should he get???

An XCE/Burner should be dirt cheap, as would a ~100mm fork to accompany it, while still being disc compatible and relatively stout (for a short travel bike). A Spot might be the better bike for him if he's planning on riding with you much, but between the frame and the fork might end up being a few hundy more, which counts for a lot on such a tight budget. Yes - XCE or Burner for that price range - either could be run with a 120mm fork as well and still handle nicely. I had a 100-130 Revelation on my Burner and really liked that set up. There are some budget 5 Spots out there too.

In May 08 I paid circa $1500 for a '04 Spot with XT/Romic/Fox Vanilla/bb7's. Though I replaced everything, as-is the components would have served anyone well for at least another couple of seasons. Maybe he can do something similar and still have a frame worthy of full rebuild later as dough permits?

... exactly what I was thinking. You may have to watch mtbr classifieds or fleabay for a couple of weeks, but something should pop up. Who knows, maybe one of the Homers has something in their back pocket, and is pm'ing you right now.

Be prepared to act fast if something is in good condition ... for some reason people like Turners.

For that are you looking for a complete bike build or frame shock only?

I know a nice Spot frame shock and headset 06 ano in storage!

Just got to get the 5.5 rockers and 5spot [mine has 5.3rockers by the way, I just 5.5 for the RFX] seat stays from somewhere unless Turner can still provide them for sale otherwise its hard to let go of my Spot!

cheapskates here, were looking for a complete. gonna pull the trigger here pretty soon. hate to say it but a smellsworth was found and may win out over the iron hoarses, santa crutches, Giant Rains, special ed chunduros, and mongooses we found online... we just want a 6pack or a 5spot! ... best turner we could find was an 02 with v brakes, non disc wheels and 3" of travel for 1200$
