I wanted to hold off posting until the new fork went on. It's a '99 Homegrown Pro, converted to single speed with an Eno eccentric hub. It weighs in at under 20.5 pounds (soon under 20) with a very durable build (no carbon). It rides incredibly well, fits perfectly, and is my favorite bike of all I've ever owned.

Also, I lust after shwinn8's Straight 8.

You guys may have seen this photo in the "Post your Schwinn Pics here" thread, but just in case... When I'm at work, this photo as wallpaper on my desktop takes me to my happy place. This was before I put the BB7's on the front. I should receive my new shifters today or tomorrow which will allow me to mount the NOS Hayes Mag-22 rear brake and lever I picked up last spring. F/R discs again at last! Oh, and bad mechanic (can I just call you "BM"?) that fox looks great on your HT. Color scheme is perfect. Did you have an old SID on there before, and if so, what are you planning to do with it?

Thing is, I wasn't trying to buy a matching fork, but the Fox F100 only comes in white.

A SID? Heavens no. The 28mm SIDs are noodles, and their damping leaves a lot to be desired. Before the F100, I had a Float, and before the Float I had a Manitou SX-R.

Have you ever considered converting your bike into a single speed? The Sweet Spot Schwinns make about the best single speed full suspension bike you could ask for.

Hmmm...I guess my black F100 didn't get the memo. :D
I'm just yankin' you, of course. ;) The only black F100's prior to 2010 (like mine) are OEMs or OEM take-offs, which is what mine is. It was new in a box and uncut, but apparently OEM spec. Normally I'm not a fan of the white sliders, but they match your bike perfectly and look good, B-Mech. That is a very sweet HG.

I had a SID100 on my red Banger before installing the Fox. Definitely prefer the Fox, though the comparison isn't totally fair since the SID is from 2000 and the Fox is a 2008. I also had an SX-R, and in fact I still have it on my commuter bike. Topping up the compression leg oil and then greasing it via the Microlube ports transformed it. It feels really nice on my commuter bike now.

If I ever go single speed, it'll be by converting my Sweetspot, I think.

You ain't just whistling Dixie there, pal. I'm toying with the idea of trying DH, and I wish I had an S8 like his to try with.

My green machine - '94 Homegrown FS by Control Tech

Somewhere around 2000 my HG was pretty beaten up and I decided it deserves a new makeover. I have spent the past years looking for NOS parts, invested into a new paint job and have built it up again some weeks ago.

It is a Homegrown FS frame made by Control Tech. This pre-series was only sold to shop employees and I purchased it in '94 directly from an employee.

Look Fournales Fork and Fox RL shock, decided to retire the original Specialized Carbon Fork (Judy) and Rock Shox shock.

NOS Control Tech: Seat post, stem, handle bar, skewers, seat clamp, headset cap as well as bar ends

San Marco Aspide Saddle, Magura green Ltd. edition

XT gruppo from '94 (M737, M738, M739) incl. hubs, cassette and V-brakes (upgrade from original)

Mavic 217 Ceramic rims with XT737 hubs

Yeti Lock on grips, Homegrown seatstay protector

I havn't decided yet what stickers to put on, I have various NOS versions available. All I put so far is the headtube batch. So not many homegrown apples on this bike yet ...

The bike weighs about 22lbs. and I am impressed how well it rides - and my current / recent fleet includes bikes a RIP9 09, Sultan, Scott Ransom or GF Superfly.

That is a very distinctive and unique bike. I like it, and I think it will really look good with the right decals. Many like to take them off, but I'm a fan of good decals. Where did you get that Fox shock?

the only shock that fits is the cannondale scalpel (1. gen) shock - got it as NOS on ebay.

likely i am going to only put the original "homegrown factory + tomato" decal and no schwinn one but right now i am too busy riding it ...
