I've got an XT M8000 crankset that I swapped back onto a bike and have managed to misplace the washer / O-ring that goes between the non-drive side crank arm and the bottom bracket. Is it okay to run for a handful of rides or do I risk damage to the crank spindle? I'm not sure if that piece helps center the crank arm or just prevents dirt from getting into the space between the BB and spindle.

The piece I am missing is part # Y1F316000 labeled #5 in this diagram:

Pull the crank, drive to the closest auto-parts store. Go into the back where they have their o-ring selection, and find one that seats in nicely. Go home, put it back on, and ride without worrying about getting dirt in your bearings. I've found matches for reverb internals that way (although I did bring calipers to match size), and that's way more finicky than the crank seal.
