Okay, so doing the obligatory "take the wife & kids to Hilton Head" thing next month. I don't have a road bike. Is there anything at all (other than the tourist bike paths) on or near the island? Even a dirt road through the woods would be better than nothing.

No help, here, but I'm curious to see what you get. Years ago I was quizzing the bike rental guy about "real" mountain bike trails, and he said "you do realize the highest point on the island is 30 feet above sea level, right?"

I rode the bike paths.

there is a dirt path near the entrance of the island that is in the woods i forget the name of it though it is on a nature preserve ... pretty but filled with bugs and no elevation
