I do a lot of hiking and biking in So Cal, where the mountains are quite steep. Many trails I hike and ride gain and loose between 700-1100 feet per mile. I think it would be really cool to be able to hike up these trails and the roll down them on something. Determining that something is my issue. It needs to be light enough that I can carry it on my back when hiking up, and it needs to be able to roll down steep, rocky trail.
I thought about a mountain board but those can't handle rocky obstacles and I don't think they can be turned well enough for tight switchbacks. Speak up if you ride mountain boards. My current thinking is a mountain unicycle. What would be ideal is a unicyle with a freewheel and brakes. This way I could coast downhill most of the time using the brakes to slow me down rather then slowing down by slowing my cadence, al. la. a fixie.
Anyone else have any ideas? (Beyond walking downhill of course
