Hightower Q: Coil shock?

1306 Views 3 Replies 4 Participants Last post by  natas1321
Hello fellow SC riders ,

Currently on a 2015 5010ccV1 modified with Ibis 742 rims, Cane Creek Helm coil fork and Inline coil. Just LOVE the way the bike handles with coil suspension.

I usually get new bike every 6 years. Might be time to go one notch higher and get on a 29's.

QUESTION: Anyone on a HT using a coil shock?

TIA.

I have older hightower lt with inline coil, and it is great. However in the current hightower 2 model, the shock tunnel through the frame is tight, and coil shock (coil) touches the frame, and causes problems. If I would by that frame, I would install new float x air shock, or then get the rock shox air shock modified by suspension workshop. Or wait for new ”hightower” model, which should come soon, maybe coil fits.

Yeah, lots of people waiting to see what the new Hightower has. Pretty sure it will have the updates the Bronson has so, room for any coil, more progression, room for all 2.5 rear tires, steeper seat tube, etc.... or you can just buy a Ripmo with a coil on it now as it's had all of those traits since the AF and V2 came out. Ripmo is also quite a bit lighter and a tad more efficient pedaling but perhaps not quite as "stout" feeling as SC's lower link bikes.

I was running a coil on my 2018 ht but have switched back to an air shock for the moment. I'll probably go back to a coil in the next month or so.
