Just looking for some help from owners. Will a bike (or 2) fit inside a Toyota Highlander or Honda Pilot upright with the front wheel removed? Or do I need to look at a bigger SUV?

Bikes fit great on top of or behind a Pilot.

Inside is a bit tougher. You'll probably have to remove/lower the seat and even then there might be some contortion going on.

Doubtful with the Pilot, no way with the Highlander. I passed on both of those for, well, lots of reasons.

We have a Pilot. Pretty hard to get them to fit inside, upright. I'd go with a hitch rack.

I use a hitch rack on my Pilot. My bikes wouldn't fit upright inside of the cab, regardless of seat positioning.

It's not what you asked about but sometimes I take my wife's RAV4 to work to go for a ride after work. I can store bike inside of car so no one can touch it, play with it and take parts. Mine is medium 29er and I can put it in without lowering saddle or take front wheel out. Just put it in, strap it so it doesn't move around and go.

Anyway, it almost feels like more you pay, less utility and space you get.

We have a Pilot...haven't tried much with the bikes. But I can fit my 21" Rockhopper 29er with the front tire removed in the back of my CRV if I fold up the 30% section of my rear seat.

Get a Honda Fit, you can "Fit" two bikes upright w/o front tire.

Thanks everyone for the input. After some test driving I decided to get a 2011 Subaru Outback. So far I love this car!

I can fit my bike in the back of both my forester and my outback without removing any wheels. But they aren't upright.

The RAV4 is actually a better bike-hauler than the Highlander. It has a lower floor and therefore a taller cargo area.
