What else is in a half hour distance from highland? I live in ny about 5 hours away and want to take a weekend trip next year. I want to also bring my girlfriend but only if there is enough around to keep her occupied. Any big malls or anything?

Just basically shopping or anything else to keep them occupied during the day. Mostly shopping lol. But spas or anything of that sort. Good restaurants or tourest type activities. Doubt it being much in the mountains but just trying to gain some info from locals.

There isn't much around there aside from the Tilton outlets, and those are only good for an afternoon of shopping. It just isn't really a tourist part of New Hampshire.
You would have more luck if you planned to do some biking near Attitash and you stayed closer to North Conway. There is tons of shopping in Conway/North Conway. We go to that area every Christmas and if the weather isn't good enough to ski, we always find something else to do.

Why not rent her a bike and get her a lesson @ Highland?
Its a small possibility. I bring her xc riding and although she goes through the trails she says she gets scared on the dh parts. It could boost confidence with pads though. Im an hour from diablo and she said shell come next year so i would have to see how that goes first.
anyone saying this isnt a tourist part of nh is wrong. if you plan this in the summer, lake winnipsaukee is 45 minutes away, lake winnisquam is probably 20-30. both have a ton of shopping around them and good restaurants, plus numerous attractions like mini golf, arcades, etc. if its for the weekend, take a cruise on the mount washington around lake winnipesaukee

Well 45 minutes isn't exactly close. An hour and a half round trip to go to a restaurant and do a little shopping is a bit overkill. You might as well just drive to Concord which is only 30 minutes away. Of course the drive to Winnipesaukee is a bit more scenic, unless you get stuck behind a local in a tractor or beat up pick up truck going 25 mph.
that extra 15 minutes each way is a real killer. if your making an afternoon/evening out it its not bad. or stay around the lake that night. and its 45 from center harbor/moultonborough. meredith, laconia, gilford, alton, and even wolfeboro will be closer.
