I knew someone was going to play the "private land" card.
I know several people (some I work with and some are family) who own substantial chunks of land and what I know about them, and probably 99.9% of other folks who do, is that they understand what they have and respect what they have. They have great pride in it and protect it in any way they can. I also know that if this was done on their property they would absolutely loose it. Do they ride 4 wheelers? Hell yeah. Is there mud? Sometimes. Do they ever get stuck? Absolutely. Do they beat the sh!t out of a mud hole and destroy the place? Hell no.
To be clear, I don't want to get people thinking I'm against 4 wheelers because I'm not; I'm just dead against THIS type of behaviour. It's stupid. Whether you're being irresponsible on a 4 wheeler, mtb, enduro or while hiking doesn't mater. It's stupid.
The proper way to get through brutally deep holes like this is to track in SLOWLY, get a friend on the other side to hook you up, and then winch(sp) your way out SLOWLY. At least that way you won't make the hole another foot deeper and who knows how much wider, uneven and freaking dangerous. Come on! You must agree there.......seriously.
In response to someone saying they had no choice but to go through it, note in the video right off the start that there is clearly a bike already on the other side and at 55 seconds in you can clearly see the "new" trail already cut. Damage is done. Sadly it's only a matter of time before that entire area is a 5 foot deep pit of impassable gumbo.
As far as being an ATV park..........well, to me, what he has done is equivalent to going to your local pump track and lopping the top off one of the jumps or throwing a log across one of the berms. Throws the entire thing off.
