Okay...the Niner One 9 creaks, the Vassago has cracks. I want to build or buy a 29er singlespeed with a rigid fork but I'm confused. Money is always an object but I can spend about 2500 and I want it to weigh in the 18 pound range with hydraulic disc brakes.

What are some good options. Don't like the Karate Monkey or Salsa aesthetically.

I know I can do a search but it's pretty confusing. I'm not proud and I'll take advice.

Also, I weigh 225, ride every day in Northern Louisiana with short steep climbs and roots but no real hills to speak of. I'm an enthusiastic amateur, pretty fit, but not a racer. Whats a good starting gear ratio and what are some good components?

Be gentle. I've been sold on single speed.

Singular swift. It comes with a very nice fork. With your budget you can afford a very nice set of wheels -- which is where you'll want to save a little weight (not too much, since you're a bigger guy).

If it were me:
swift frame/fork
xt/xtr cranks/hbc ring (and cog, too)
dt swiss 240s rear hub/revolution spokes, alloy nips/wtb TCS laser disc rims/tubeless with your choice of tires
thomson stem/post
saddle of some sort
king or cane creek 110 headset
bars (ugh, that one's been beaten to death...) I like easton carbon dh bars
esi chunky grips
incredibell

if it were me...

My vote is for a Ti frame and transfer your parts. Depending on the frame, you may still have enough for a nice set of wheels too. Consider a Lynskey Ridgeline. Check their website, there looks to be a deal on the Pro SL in medium in the Loft

As for gear ratio, what are you running on the One 9? Are you clearing everything? Start from there.

I meant that "everybody" says the One 9 creaks and I am therefore reluctant to buy the frame even though I like it on looks and geometry.
