Building up a Macalu Ti hardtail (made by Litespeed, very similar to a Pisgah) and I am driving myself nuts over what crankset to use. I am looking to keep it light, but still stiff enough for a 230 pound pedal masher like me. Lately I've been using Truvativ Hussefelts & Holzafellers but they are just too darn heavy for this nice frame. Here's what I've go to choose from, all used, all 175mm, for a 9 speed drivetrain.
Caramba Double Barrels 110 BCD - not sure how compatible these are with 9 spd?
Race Face Next LP Compact square taper
Race Face Evolve XC - X type BB - 4 bolt
Race Face North Shore Compact square taper
Shimano LX Octalink splined- 4 bolt
Or should I splurge on something like a new style LX or XT external BB style crankset?
Thanks,
Scott
