Help with cleaning/tuning my old bike

634 Views 5 Replies 4 Participants Last post by  revrnd
Can somebody please point me to a good website that will show me some basic tuning steps? I know that I need to pump some air in the tires. I don't know how to clean up and lube the chain and derailler.

I have not taken my bike out for a couple of years and I would like to get back onto trails :)

Thanks,
MT

I see Simple Green makes a "Bike" version of their cleaner. 4 Questions:

Has anyone used it & how well does it work?

How does the price compare to some of the MTB industry cleaners?

Where have you purchased it?

Thanks

It's the same stuff, just packaged differently and LBS charges more for it. The problem with Simple Green is that it's corrosive to aluminum if it?s left on too long or it not complete rinsed off. Personally, I switch to an orange based degreaser just to be safe. Works almost as well and I don't run the risk of damaging the bike.

I've seen several orange based cleaners in the Canadian Tire stores (a large parts chain in Canada) here. I didn't see anything saying they were safe for the type of cleaning when working on a bike, so I was kind of leery of them. Any preference for a brand?
