just converted from canti to v-brake and need these inserts for my XT levers. parts are circled in red (pic is of a friends bike w/ similar levers):

i know i saw a thread here once about this same thing but i cant seem to find it now...

They are the leverage adjusters. Took mine out don't know where they are now. Ebay or contact shimano.
