This shouldn't be happening. I got a used set of deemaxes that the guy was running a saint axle with on an uzzi. From what I can tell, he didn't use the spacers though. I've still got the axle at home.
In theory, the saint bolt should be the exact same diameter as the bolt on bits.
I'll see if it fits when I leave work today.
I can tell you right now though, if it were me, I'd just drill out the spacers to make it fit.

As you know there are two different spacers from the Uzzi and M3. One set is for the 9mm QR and the other set, which are thicker is for the thru 12mm axle.kidwoo said:This shouldn't be happening. Since the Saint axle is 10mm, I beleive the QR spacers should be use. If the axle is too wide, you might need to drill the spacers to make it bigger.

Maybe his Saint axle is 12mm... they come in 2 flavours.

First thing to do is measure you're dropouts, if they measure 135mm spacing the axle works with the Smaller of the two spacers. The spacer I'm referring to has got a step down design to it. You need a sharpie marker, and a drimmel tool, and maybe a rattail file. You want to install the spacer on the back of the rear derailluer so you can trace out the der. stop on the saint rear derailleur.( are you using the saint with the saint axle, if not get the standard axle, and dissregaurd this post?) Next step is to drimmel out ONLY the area where the bump stop of the rear der. will contact. Try not to cut the groove so deep that you lose the step down part off of the spacer, but it does need to be deep enough that it it allows the der. to "bottom out" on the spacer, basically cut to the top of the step down. After that is done, you need to install the spacers, from the outside of the dropout, it is easier to line the rear wheel up in the dropout first then install the spacers accordingly....obviosly the "cutout" spacer will need to go on the drive side, face the cutout part down so as to allow the rear der. stop to contact the spacer correctly. Tighten her up and it should be good to go. Call me if you have any ?s...888-276-7130, or email; to [email protected]. I had this issue last year with my VPX. I had a 12mm x 150 Saint hub and Saint RD.
The issue is that there is a small recess on the outside of the dropouts which 1) makes it so the RD wont sit properly in the dropout and 2) the axle tread wont bottom out properly on the RD leaving play. None of the spacers Intense supply rectifies this. All I got with my frame was a 12 ïƒ* 10mm conversion washer I believe. To make the setup work I had to modify the drive side dropout so that the Saint RD tab would sit correctly in the slot and add a washer on the non-drive side to eliminate the spacing issue. The interior droupout spacing is right; the outer (due to the recess) is not compatible with Saint - as it ships. It is a pretty big oversight on their part IMO considering they showed the bike at Interbike that year with a Saint RD. I am surprised no one else had commented on this. Surely Intense has a solution. Saint dropouts maybe? Basically the dropouts would need to be flush on the outside like they are on the inside. Maybe an Intense staff member can offer up a solution? I would like to know as I will be running the same setup on my M3 for ’06.

I ruined one of the spacers trying to modify it before the OP. I am ordering some new spacers from Intense. SO I should get it right this time.

I have a buddy who weighs about 190-200, and he has had no problems with his setup. So I guess the metal is strong as far as riding goes, but they are machined out pretty slim around the allen hole. Here's a tip to try.....Do not tighten the rear der all the way onto the axle, leave a couple threads showing from fully tightened, you will want to hold the allen wrench in position while tightening the nut on the same side, AFTER threading the der. on the axle. You do not need to tighten it very much using the allen wrench, let the axle nut take the torque. If you tighten it too much the hub will not spin as freely as it should, (you may have figured this out by now). Once the wheel is installed you can use your Mavic hub tool to adjust the tension on the rear wheel. Glad to be of assistance. Enjoy your bike, the Uzzi is deffinitely an awesome rig.
