Hey there, I want to get the 09 Stinky, but got a couple of questions.

1) Can I replace the shock for a Fox DHX 5.0?
2) can I put a crank with 2 rings in the front and a Front Derailleur? I would like to make it a little bit climb friendly.

Thanks for the help

1. Yes, you can replace the shock
2. If the RIDE DH cranks haven't changed from '07 yes, you need 4 inner chainring bolts (6 bucks at most), a top pull high clamp 34.9mm bottom swing derailleur, and a shifter and housings.
I did it to my '07 and it's nice for trail riding, but I'm putting the chainguide back on when summer comes around for DH race

Why would you bring this post to the shop? Hope there not telling you otherwise or giving you a hard time. Another bit of handy of info is if you do it up front you can work out a deal for the shock upgrade, since the rear shock should have a trade in value, since the shop will most likely sell it to someone else later. As for the duel chainring idea, I don't think you should have any problems, besides finding a front derailer that in budget. If you got the buck for the DHX got for a saint front derailer and doere shifters. I noticed on the pick online at konaworld that it may be imposible to now get the front shifting in the first place since it does not seem to have the mounting cups for the cable housing. Nothing good-old ducktape can't fix. But some advice might be to go for a stinky six since it has a duelchain rings system and just change the shock... you'll save money at the same time since it's 500$ cheaper. That could pay for your rear shock. But that's just my opinion. Hope the LBS is being helpful. I hate it when the shop tries to weasel you for an idiot with a big wallet. Happy new year by the way.
