--HELP-- Oil leak from 2002 Manitou Six Sport.

Please see attached pictures first. There is an oil leak on seals and sliders.
It is a used fork I bought from someone. It no longer has a warranty.
Should I send it to a Manitou service department or a local bike shop?
Are there any bike shops in Denver that can fix this?
Thanks...

It's not oil.

It's an injected lube. They may have been using PrepM (but who really knows what they were pumping in there?). Whatever it is, it looks as if it is starting to liquify/break down. You need to separate the uppers and lowers, clean out all the residual lube, re-assemble your fork, and pump a few squirts of lube into each port (you'll need to do this every few rides). By the way, get used to the rings on the stanchions--that's the only way you will know that you are still lubing the bushings (just the way the Microlube system works). Just as an aside, I like using Rock 'n Roll's Super-Slick Grease, but the PrepM is OK, too.

Yeah...to add to what what Chris said...if you don't wanna take it apart yourself, almost all LBS's can handle that. If you want a recommmendation, I suggest Wheatridge Cyclery. I don't see any reason it would need to be sent in to Manitou.

Easy....

Get a tube of Super Slick Grease off from Chris (or Manitou M-Prep) and pump it into your Microlube ports. That's it.

That stuff coming off your stanchions are a sign that the seals are getting some grease which is good.

Wipe the thing off. Slide the boots up. Compress the fork a couple of times and then wipe again the stanchions and clean the seals. Clean and put back in place the boots.

If you want to clean the inside of the lower assy, disassembly is simple. You can even install the Enduro Seals Chris sells if you suspect thre's grit coming into the fork
