Take a test ride on them both, then choose the one that feels more comfortable to you. If it doesn't fit right, nothing else is going to matter much.
help needed making a choice
hello all. i've been looking into mountain biking. i've visited a bunch of LBS shops and have narrowed my choices down to two. now I was hoping to get some opinions on which bike may be the better buy. a gary fisher marlin for $380, or a trek 4500 for $410. opinions and input is greatly appreciated. thanks.

Same company, same bike?
Take a close look. I believe those are basically the same bike. The frames are the same, and i think it's the same even down to the grips. Go with which paint you prefer.
