So I was looking to buy a bike in the next week or so and for the most part have it narrowed down to the specialized hardrock comp disc or the ibex alpine 650. I don't want to spend more than $600 so please keep that in mind.

The bike would be used mainly for paved riding (I would buy some more appropriate tires) with occasional trips offroad. I am 5'11" and about 215 pounds. until I loose some weight (part of the reason for getting the bike), I would not be riding any difficult trails so hopfully the fork abilities would not be too much of an issue. What do you all think is the best way to go? I realize I need to buy the bike that fits, but what are some general opinions of these bikes? Thanks

Get the Hardrock

Not sure how you're going to get one at $600, but hands down it's the better bike for someone your weight.

My LBS has the hardrock comp disc for $550 and it retails for $600 on the specialized website. maybe you were thinking of the rockhopper. I also think that I can talk the LBS into a better deal if I offer cash or buy some of my accessories there.

Trek makes some decent hybrid bikes which would work for what your looking for, just no extreme trails, smooth stuff. For a hardtail mtn bike, 4300-4900 are great bikes from trek, Fisher makes a Piranha which is what i'm currently looking at.

Hope you find what you need
