Help me figure out where to go!

I live in southeast Michigan - Ann Arbor - and I am looking for the best place to go for real mountain biking trails within an 8 - 10 hour drive of me. This will include states like, TN, West Virginia, Wisconsin, and possibly even New Hampshire or Vermont.

I have been riding Michigan trails the last few years and I want to experience real mountains. I am looking for any suggestions on the best places to go for this that fits my radius of travel.

I would like an area with several trails near each other (within an hour or so of each other) so I can experience several different trails in a somewhat smaller geographic area. I'm all about being in the middle of nowhere and camping out too. :thumbsup:

How about Asheville, N Carolina?

I live in New England (NH) and if you want to ride in the "Mountains" this is probably not the place (there are a few exceptions VT and Highland NH). Due to the geology of NH most of the mountain trails are broken staircases of granite, not the best for mountain biking.

Thanks for the information on VT. Asheville is w/ in my driving range and was high on my list. Any suggested trails in the Asheville and nearby TN area? Is this area better than West Virginia? WV is suppose to have some pretty good trails, right?

Funny, Asheville is where I am taking the family and I also live in Michigan (Hartland).

Are you doing any mountain biking while you're down there? If so, are there any good trails you have in mind?
