Help me convince myself to buy the Fuel EX 8 over the 7

I have a weird way of buying things. I have to convince myself into spending more money and really believe that it is worth it. So please help me out. :)

Though I can't go wrong with the Fuel EX 7 but the 8's are on sale right now. The thing is I found a left over 2009 Fuel EX 7 for $1500 and the 2010 Fuel EX 8 is on sale for $1900. Can you guys help me justify spending an extra $400 for the 8?

Thanks in advance.

Honestly, my two cents.... buy the less expensive model frame you want, why? 9 times out of 10, you end up upgrading the drivetrain/shocks anyway. That way you can get what you want when you want it.

If you must, just spend the extra $400 for the 8.
I would get the cheaper one since you'll be upgrading parts anyway.....
That was my next question actually. Should I just save $400 and save if for better components than what the 8 has as I break them on the 7? Do people normally upgrade their components on the 8?

I heard the 2010 EX 8 and 7 have the same frame but is there a difference in the 2009 EX 7?

The DRCV shock is what sold me...
I haven't looked into what tat thing can do but if you'll be thinking of it obsessively after the fact than you better get it right out of the gate.
How much does that DRCV shock cost?
You can't get it as an aftermarket thing. It's only made for the Trek models, so Fox doesn't sell it. Plus, it's special mounting hardware so I don't think you can swap out for one later. Get the higher one for the shock upgrade thing. It's worth it. Ttyl, Fahn
I think the DRCV shock is a 2010 item, and this is a leftover 2009. In that case the extra for an EX8 is still worth it for Fox Float versus Rockshox Recon fork, tubeless ready wheels and SLX instead of Deore.

No the EX-7 is a left over 2009 and the EX-8 is a 2010. I test rode it today.
spend the money and get the 2010 you wont need to upgrade anything except grips. The suspension is killer on the 2010!
Ya really you will want to get a 2010 or even a 2011 ex8!!! :) it will last you for year.s
Pull the trigger on the EX8...

Okay, you could get the EX7 and use the difference in price to upgrade. But consider that all of the time you spend upgrading parts the EX7, you could just spend it RIDING the EX8 instead!
Let's all be realistic here. It doesn't matter which one tou buy...you'll upgrade the 8 also.
We are all addicts on this forum....I challenge you to buy the 8 and not upgrade a thing.
I've said I wouldn't upgrade 3-4 of my past bikes...I've lied to myself every time.
+1 for the awesome shock, and the 8 has a tapered head-tube.
Thanks for all the help guys!

I went with the Fuel EX 8
