After doing the Mudslinger Race last Saturday I suffered from hiccups for the following nine hours. The next day they returned and stuck around for only about three hours. Today, I've been on the verge of getting hiccups again, but have managed to think slowly and not make any sudden movements that might start the torture again. As long as move as if I'm doing The Robot, they don't start, but I can feel them right there in my upper chest waiting, waiting, waiting, to spew forth. I've tried inhaling as deeply as possible then gulping water (kinda worked). I've tried drinking water upside down (oh what a mess). I've tried eating candy (didn't work, but felt good), and I've tried compressing my C3-5 nerves that make up the Phrenic nerve to the diaphragm (has worked before, but not this time).

What home remedies do you guys have for me to try??

Hiccup Remedies

I use a sandwich paper bag. Breath in and out till hiccups gone.

Have been successful with just holding my breath till I feel like I am going to pass out. Take in only a little air and continue holding breath till you turn purple or hiccups are gone.

I will get them mostly when I am extremely stressed. Yes...playing quiet to body helps, but you have to get at the stress cause.

HAVE YOU EVER SEEN A RED RABBIT?????

There, your cured. Seriously, if you witness somebody with the hiccups and you get right in their face and ask them that question...their hiccups will be instantly cured 99% of the time. Hope they go away soon.

First off, think of it like this...the 'hiccup' is nothing more than a muscle spasm of the diaphragm. When was the last time you knew of a muscle spasm ending voluntarily? Heck, that one kid on 'Leno' has had the hiccups for over thirteen years...or something like that.

Remedies that work for me:
1) Inhale a breath as large as you can, and hold it for a long time. At the immediate moment of exhale, ingest a gulp of air and make yourself belch. Repeat as needed, or until you get a really good combination...you'll know when you do.
2) Bend over, deeply inhale/exhale rapidly as if you were hyperventilating/gasping for air.

These two work for me, but only when I have the 'mindset' to make them work...that is the key, making your mind/body stop doing it from the biological standpoint. I have found that if I stay really hydrated, I don't get them as often. I'm not a Dr., does this mean anything?

hi-CCU-ps!

What allways works for me is to stretch the diaphram (no not that one) by using the off hand to grasp the back of the neck and arching the back and tilting the head back then taking as deep a breath as possible and drinking water until you need to exhale. WHEW! although it just may be all the stuff I have to accomplish that rids me of the hiccups I think it works because hiccups I've been told are diaphram spasms. Good luck.
