I have Deore shifters/brake levers and lx rear and front der. I want to upgrade to SRAM x9 trigger shifters and rear D. Can I use my existing brake levers or do I need to purchase something compatible with SRAM? Is there anything else I need to take into consideration or anything else I need to purchase? Thanks

If your shifters/brake levers are separates, yeah they will work fine with the X9.

Thanks Ratt, I assume my shifters brake levers are seperates..but they seem to fit together seamlessly. Will I get the same fit with SRAM?

Looks like this one:
Shimano Deore Shifter
If thats the picture of your setup i am afraid you don't have separates and will have to buy levers separately. I highly recommend any of the Avid SD (single digits), not sure what the new FR model is about but is looks nice. It used to be common to see oem blow outs of these levers for $19 but I think the new Shimano Sti strategy made this a thing of the past. Look to be spending at least $30-40. If you looking to spend less maybe go to eBay or visit a bike shop, they usually have a box of levers and stuff from upgrading new bikes off the floor.
