There's two helmet cameras available now in the $300 or so range that are being used. Those are the ContourHD 1080 and the GoPro HD.

Here's a thread in the video forum where pastajet goes over the +/- on those two cameras: http://forums.mtbr.com/showthread.php?t=582776.

I recently had a lot of time to do nothing but surf the net and I spent a lot of time looking at videos. Based upon the armchair review, my riding style, equipment used for viewing videos and the amount of money available for a camera, I got the ContourHD 720. Since I haven't been out riding, I don't have any footage available.

Another option is to get a P&S camera and use the video setting. I'm thinking of getting a Panasonic TS-1 to replace my aging Canon 590IS.

Or get a small camcorder and mount it to your helmet. That's been done for years with good success.

I got the GoPro for X-mas and so far the jury is out. I've taken it skiing two days and there is some good video (a little jerky is spaces). No software comes with the GoPro so you have do get that yourself.

Hey Knob, did the Contour come with any editing software?

I have a buddy that got the GoPro first, then dumped it for the Contour, citing weight as an issue (Note: He's a roadie, so I have no clue wtf he is taking video of. I've seen the bike lane of Tramway a thousand times already).

It came with something called Easy Edit Software. Its used to adjust the configurable settings on the camera.

I got a copy of VideoPad but was looking at trying Adobe Premier Elements and Sony's Vegas Movie Studio sometime.

Thanks. The reviews for the Contour seem rather good. Not the highest resolution by any means, but from a stability and reliability aspect the camera seems to be a great choice for mountain biking, boarding, and skiing. I didn't know we had a video forum on mtbr.
