I have both. Talus is better for rooty XC and under 175 lbs. Pike is better for Drops (over 1 ft.) and over 175 lbs. I live on Vancouver Island and the trails are super technical and lots of drops, at 170 lbs. I prefer my Pike 454 Air U-turn. The Talus is smoother in high speed rooty stuff.
I am running the Pike on my Heckler and I am satisfied. I sold my Talas because of the axle to crown height. The added travel and axle to crown feels more stable in technical sections and overall riding.
