Hi there I need quickly some advice from you guys as Ive to make up my mind ASAP, Im thinking about buying a Heckler with a Fox DHX 5 coil shock on it, BUT myl ocal SC dealer has run out of them for the moment(at least 2 weeks), so it has offered me a Heckler frame 05 with a 5th element coil paying only the FRAME(so the shock would be for free), knowing that 5th element shocks are out of MTB business now, the dealer wants to get rid of them quickly, the dealer also told me its going to be spare parts for the shock for 2 years....so my main concerns are the difference performances between the Fox and the 5th element andif it is worth to get this 5th element shock knowing theyre out of business.....please any advice will be welcome!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have had a 04 Heckler with 5th element and still have a Bullit and V10 with 5th elements. Thay are still a very good shock and if it is free you can't beat the price....... you can alway pick up a Fox later.... I sold the heckler to build a Blur LT love the bike but the cost of the frame is much more... What is he going to charge you for the Heckler?

I dont know if this may help you as Im located in Spain so the price is in euros, but the frame with the Fox shock is sold at 1430euros and with the 5th element only 1000 euros, as they are trying to get rid of 5th stuff Im going to try to include a titanium spring in the deal ...and see what happens....that will do a better deal I think??:D

I agree. I have a heckler with the 5th and it is a sweet shock. Even if you decide you want the fox, you can look for a deal on one, and when you find it, keep the 5th as a backup.
yes, I have thought about that, either keeping the shock as a backup or selling it when I find a good deal on a Fox shock as you say...anyone that have tried both shocks and can tell me what I would be losing if I choose the 5th in terms of performance??cheers!!!

presuming that both are 2.25" strokes, you're probably not going to notice much. I think the most apparent difference is that with the fox, you're able to make fine adjustments without tools.

P.S. I just switched from the 5th to a dhx (both coil). The 5.0 dhx feels a lot more plush- albiet it has some quirks about it. but that's the compromise.

The 5th is an awesome shock

The 5th Element is an awesome shock and if you can get one for free then you definitely should do it. It always good to have a back up shock. The DHX is an awesome shock too. I think you would like them both.

Progressive is going to continue servicing the bike shocks for 2-3 years.
