Heads Up! Increased Parking enforcement at Mt Falcon

spent a couple of minute chatting with a ranger at the Morrison parking lot, as he was installing some temporary signage regarding increased parking enforcement of the spaces at the far north end of the parking lot, the large spaces intended for horse trailers.
He said that they had been receiving complaints about these spaces not being available as they were being used by passenger cars, and several complaints from the residents when the horse trailers are parked along the entry road.
JCOS has changed the permanent signage, stating that the spaces are reserved for horse trailers and have stepped up enforcement. The ranger indicated that on this past Saturday,, 3 rangers were patrolling and he estimated that each may have issued 12 citations each.
I know that there have been several times in the past when driving my old F350, that I would park in those spaces, as that truck was pretty big. As it was explained to me, that now those spaces are not to used by any vehicle expect one that is pulling a horse trailer, all other vehicles were subject to a ticket.
Just be warned, as the change in the permanent signage is subtle, and the temporary signage is just that, temporary

I know, what we need is an even/odd day program out there. Even days, mountain bikes can't park there. Odd days, mountain bikers can't use the trials.
They are doing the same thing in Three Sisters main parking lot--22 cars including mine got a $50 ticket there on Saturday.
I don't see the problem here. Most of the parks have spots for the horse trailers and this is not just a JeffCo thing. Boulder has horse trailer parking as well. For the one or two horse trailers that come to a park, I don't see the big deal in designating an extra large spot for them. They do it for handicapped. Besides, if the park is that crowded that every space is taken, who the hell wants to ride there anyway? Especially, the Mt. Falcon super highway.

22 cars in one day? How many horse trailer spots are there up there?!

silly me, I assumed that it was just an increase in enforcement at the Mt. Falcon.

So, how do we go about getting spaces reserved for the MTB crowd? We certainly want anything that would appear to give the horsey crowd preferential treatment.:D

@ Falcon, there can't be more than 5 spots, and they wrote 36 tickets on Saturday.

The ranger said every time they rolled thru, every space was in use illegally and they wrote a ticket for each & every car they found in one of the spaces.

You've got to be [email protected] kidding me....

I'm going to gather up all of their horse $hit and put it in their "designated" parking spaces...

If you are in the main parking area the entire north side of the lot is reserved for horse trailers--enough room for 22 cars to be parked next to each other, which would be 2 to 3 full size trucks with trailers attached.

What if I put a giant cardboard box over my car and write Horse Trailer on the side, drop a few horse turds next to it so it smells real nice?

I don't see a problem with it as long as they're not overkill. Sometimes though, the "special spaces" can get a bit excessive. Like pulling up to a Super Target with 30 handicapped spaces and only 3 of them are in use.

More preferential treatment for the equestrian crowd...Go figure...
Those damned equestrians really ought to just ride from their house to the trail.

:p

Hey now, you were right on point and completely logical in your response, right up to the part where you made a disparaging remark about the Mt. Falcon trail. :D.

Not much we can do in regard to the reserved spots for horse trailers, just wanted to make the group aware and hopefully save them some money.
Heck just get a horse trailer and pull your bike out of it.. WTF are they going to say to that? you know that you will get a spot every time...

I don't ride horses, but seriously? How do you think they are supposed to park if they have a large truck pulling a horse trailer? A couple spots for their parking is not a big deal, yes it takes up more space, but how else are they going to park? Should they just take up 7 regular spots in the normal parking area so they can piss even more people off? If you aren't supposed to park there, don't! Then you won't get a ticket...

Even better, make it an Ironhorse bike. Someone please do this in front of rangers. I would love to see the ensuing argument.
So many people have such a huge sense of entitlement when it comes to their cars, parking, etc. IMO, if you park in an area designated for trailers when you don't have a trailer and you get a ticket you have nothing to ***** about. Kind of like "yeah, I was speeding or yeah I ran the stop sign, or yeah, i was parked in a no parking zone but it's BS that I got a ticket."
