The rear hub started slipping today and I would assume the pawls have worn down - but I haven't taken the hub apart yet. Since I can find no information on the hubs on Hayes website - does anybody here have an idea on who actually manufactured the hubs and where I could possibly get info on a rebuild kit or parts?
Thx.
Information is golden. Thanks a bunch - mine are the Superlights.shiggy said:The Hayes Elite is a DT Swiss Onyx.
Hayes Superlight is a DT Swiss 240.
That "slipping" feeling is what happened to mine (twice!) when the rear hub cracked. The 240 hubs had a real problem with that. DT has since switched to powder coating rather than annodization. They claimed that the annodization process was making the hub shell brittle.Timo said:Information is golden. Thanks a bunch - mine are the Superlights.
Dave you must have ESP! Probabaly about the time you wrote this I was in the garage looking a t the hubs and yes indeed there is a crack. Oh well I at least didn't need to take the hub apart! Darn, but they did get survuve a brutal 5-6 years if riding.. I will still probabaly replace with a 240 - I have them on my 29er (hope they are powedercoated).MightySchmoePong said:That "slipping" feeling is what happened to mine (twice!) when the rear hub cracked. Dave
I called DT Swiss at 8 in the morning on a Monday, left a message and didn't hear back from them - so over lunch I stopped by LBS and buddy there called Dave @ DTSwiss directly and reiterated the mesage - then got offer for the 350 hub. I got back to work just after lunch and Dave had left message saying the same on my voicemail.Mudman said:I was building up my new trance and just noticed the rear of my superlights hub is crackedWhat process did you use to RMA the hub?
TIA
I busted my Hayes Superlights this week: cracked hub shell. I thought I had blown up the internals but it was the shell. I'm going with a 340 too. I can live with 3 ounces to get a free hub. I wonder if the 340 is a tougher hub than the 240...I'm going with a heavier rim too. I don't want to true a wheel monthly.Timo said:I called DT Swiss at 8 in the morning on a Monday, left a message and didn't hear back from them - so over lunch I stopped by LBS and buddy there called Dave @ DTSwiss directly and reiterated the mesage - then got offer for the 350 hub. They wanted the cracked hub before they would send out the 350. Buddy at LBS said he would handle for me - still waiting for hub.
I just cracked my Hayes superlight hub yesterday and was on this board looking for recs on a new hub. My crack looks exactly like the ones in the picture. I've been on them for about 4 years. I'm glad I read this thread!Timo said:I have a set of Hayes Disc Hubs about 5-6 years old.
