Hello fellow riders. In this thread we will discuss any mods that some of us have made to bike components. I am not talking about changing stuff onto your bike, like new fork or new shock, but rather what mods have been done to your existing gear. I'll start first with my very short list
1. Shimano zee calipers, changed the cotter pin to threaded screw like the saints.
2. Shimano zee levers, changed only the lever blades to m8000 blades. Body remained zee.
3.Removed the snake eye screw from bite point abjust to headless allen screw in black.
4. Converted my frame from quick release to thru axle making a derailleur hanger insert nut in a lathe from 7075 aluminum and stainless steel. (made 3 in aluminum 4 in stainless steel.)
5. Made a custom thru axle from solid piece of 7075 aluminum rod.
6. I increased the stroke to my rear shock (xfusion o2 pro rlx) by removing the spacer inside it.
7.i installed a cable canal underneath the downtube, and i removed the cables from inside the frame and passed them through the cable canal. That way i can remove them anytime i want just like canyon bikes. The cable canal also protects the frame.
8. I filled a lilttle bit of plastic from the chain tensioner so i can tilt it more degrees. It literally had no tilting adjustment only distance.

Please share your mods or what you have imagined that could be done.

I don't modify anything really. I figure the engineers that designed it probably know more than me. However, I would love to see photos of your frame where you converted to thru axle...

Back in the day on the Kawasaki forums there existed a man who went by shervin rrr and he did some pretty deep custom work including making his own exhaust slip ons and cutting holes in the frame of his zx10r for better airflow or some such horseshit.

Been mtbiking since 83'.... got rid of all cassetts (rohoff hubs) on mtbs and gravel bike, so no deraileurs. Also had all my crankarms machined down to 135mm
Curious -- why not 125mm? Or 100mm? Or 150mm?
Why 135mm?
I'm still trying to figure out optimum lever length.
Obviously reducing crank length reduces leverage, so I'm curious how you landed on 135mm.
Thanks,

I tried every length from 170mm to 120mm. On 20mi rides changeing each ride with 10mm increments for two weeks. Oh and have 125mm on my road bike....Leverage doesn't seem to bother me. (Being only a small slice of the pie,,,360) However had to change the gearing on my 650B from the same gearing I have on my 26er because of wheel size. I love tech climbs...I just like them climbing the steeps...
