nevermind, there's no way I can do it. I tried yesterday
Well, I rode for about 1.5 hours Saturday night, then at about 1.5 hours into my Sunday ride, I thought... WTF, I want to ride down SST again ( a fun FR/DH/XC trail). But that required a climb back up.. and I was thinking about 1x9 so I tried my best to make it up in 32/34. Not gonna happen. Even 32/36 would not have helped me. It friggin steep in some places here and really muddy. Maybe I could have done it in the summer, but my ride in the summer is more like 3 hours, not 2.Guy.Ford said:Why not what happened?
I am going to try it in the summer. I think with the 36t out back, I can do it. Just not now, in the mud. It's so slippery and nasty... it just bogs you down in the climbs.kenbentit said:Oh cmon, we did that climb with 1x9's last summerHurt like hell now that I think about it...
I think that I must not have been clear so in the spirit of making sure that I am, I fully endorse the use of 1X9 and 1X10. With any of those setups you will be rocking between a 30-36T ring and they are going to work great on a dw-link.gticlay said:I know that DW put on his blog that running a 1x9 setup isn't a great idea due to some sort of complicated reason, but I've wanted to try this for a while now. Anyway, anybody try this yet?
I thought you were very clear. Edit to add: I do think the Firebird is the best riding FS bike out there. I'm certainly not attacking it, DW, or the design._dw said:I think that I must not have been clear so in the spirit of making sure that I am, I fully endorse the use of 1X9 and 1X10.
