Here's my newly built Haro Mary XC. It's a mix of old and new stuff, since I can't afford everything new! Besides, I think it's a crime to have some of this stuff lurking in the parts bin and not be using it.

Frame: 18" Haro Mary XC
Fork: Steel Mary OEM
Headset: Cane Creek S-1
Seat post: Salsa Shaft
Saddle: WTB SST titanium circa 1996
Tires: Bontrager 1.8" XR's
Rims: Alex TD-17's
Spokes: Wheelsmith DB
Nipples: Brass
Hubs: XT disc
Brakes: Avid BB-7's
Shifters/Levers: XTR circa 1997 8spd.
Handle bar: Salsa Pro Moto 17 degree
Grips/Bar ends: Team Green Ergon
Bottom Bracket: Shimano UN-73
Crankset: Sun Tour XC Pro Micro Drive circa 1992 w/ 20T granny!
Front derailluer: SRAM X-Gen
Rear derailluer: XT 8spd with gold ano cartridge bearing jockey wheels circa 1996
Cassette: 12-32T 8spd XT circa 1996
- Avid Rollamajig, blue ano
- generic cables and housing

Some stuff will be changed out later when I can afford it. Cables and housing and head set will be the first to go!

I haven't ridden it yet, but we do have about 5" of snow on the trails right now! Soon as I can, I will!

Eight is great

Very nice build. I like the color. Eight speed stuff and the original WTB saddles are timeless - new isn't always improved. How about some Suntour XC pro thumbshifters instead of the triggers? I'm sure spring can't come soon enough for you.

Then the owner can spend 3 times the frame cost to have Charlie machine some brakes.

I've got some Suntour XC Pro 8 speed thumbies, (and sevens come to think of it!), a couple beat up XC Pro rear mechs, and some Sun Tour roller cams. Now if the Mary had a roller cam option, well I coulda.........anyway!

Come to think of it, I have Sun Tour XC Pro Grease Guard hubs too.......dang!

26lbs or so. I could lose some weight by going with my Switchblade carbon fork, new light weight hubs/rims, and a few bits here and there. Sub 25 wouldn't be out of the question.

I'm a big guy though, so the weight weenie program is focusing on the "engine" for now!

That really is a cool shade of green.

Nice looking build. I bet it rides beautifully. I rode a werks SS for awhile, and it is a very nice bike. Not that it compares to the Mary though!

I love Ergon grips, period.

Whether or not I got them for free, know the guy that works for them, or not. Doesn't matter.

They made my riding a thousand times more enjoyable and pain free. I would gladly pay full retail for a set tomorrow if I needed them.

Actually, I think they look kinda goofy, but danged if they don't work!

At least for me, anyway.
