Hardrock is a good entry level mtn. bike. i've still got mine from 2000, the frame is heavy and it doesn't climb well. But they have lightened the frame up alot from what I hear. Upgrade some parts, grab some skills and then upgrade the bike. Specialized are some of my favorite bikes.

Hardrock

I love mine (06 sport disk) the only thing that kinda pizzed me off is that the piant in a few places as already rubbed off and the frame is showing. I did have a problem withthe crank too left side fell off. I think that that it was a problem from the LBS, they put the thing together and they also fixed it with no prob. The bike is supper light and has 1 hell of a strong frame.

I have the $350 Hardrock Sport (2006). I've always bought Huffys from the department stores and decided to spend a little more on an entry level bike. It's like night and day for me! It's really light, pretty darn solid, and I am really liking it. If this is entry level, I can't imagine what some of these upper tier bikes are like.

So did you get it?

Hardrock Sport Disc

Yo, I just picked up a 2007 Hardrock Sport Disc from my LBS for about $469. I'm seriously impressed with pretty much everything except the drivetrain, which is too crunchy for my taste. The seat is also uncomfortable for all but the shortest amount of relaxed ass-down cruising.

The paint job is flippin' gorgeous though. If Darth Vader needed an entry level hardtail with disc brakes, he'd opt for the Hardrock Sport Disc.

Again, gripes on the cheapo pedals, but this is a bike one can build on, which is precisely what I plan to do.

Anybody have any suggestions about where to go from here? I'm running bone stock and I'm working 40 hours per week with cash to burn on an exciting new hobby.

Upgrade the seat post, stem, tires, pedals, and fork. That's what I would do. Actually I did on my 2000 Hardrock, upgraded the tires to Panaracers Fire XC's, next i'm putting on Crank Brothers 5050.
If you buy the cheap hardrock, like I did, you'll end up upgrading all the things Mastamind mentioned, like I did! :eekster: :madman:

I did the same thing only I have Crank Brothers Candys and Fire XC's.

I'd get the Hardrock Comp.
