Silly question.... anyone know about fabricating their own 29" tire out of 26" tires? I assume that it was how some the first ones were experimented with. I believe the 650's started out this way.

I'm jones-in for a 2.5 Nevegal 29er and thought I'd experement. Crazy, I'm sure... Curious, fur shur!

Hmmmmmm.

Check with Cloxkie, he did something like that a few years ago and more recently another poster also tried it, trying to get big meat, but don't think it really worked out - can't remember who though.

Pacenti's first tires?

Didn't Pacenti make his first sets of 650b's by hand by patching tires together or reducing a 29" tire down before he got tire makers to jump on board?

Yes, he cut down 29" Exiwolfs.

I have thought about making tires from two 26" tires, but enough to trust my ability to make them hold together in use. I was told by Robert Egger(sp), Specialized design guru, it was how they made tires for their show bikes, including the off road high wheeler with a ~60" Ground Control front tire.
