Is it just me or did they get the concept of Hammerschmidt backwards?

I think they should have had "underdrive" instead of overdrive. Would be better to be on 1:1 in the larger ring since that is the one a rider spends most of the time in. Would use the "gearing" then only in the less often used granny gear. Better efficiency then for most of the pedaling. Plus then the system would work better with the different suspension designs since you would be on a 34 chain ring instead of a 22.

What am I missing on this subject?

Yes ground clearance is better the way the did it, but I think the issues I pointed out are much more important.

I heard there are more losses and inefficiencies in making the system and underdrive than in making the system a overdrive. I'm not really sure...

Either way, for me to get one they either need to start designing suspension frames around the 22 ring, or Sram has to make an "underdrive" model. I'm just not interested in it as is. I hate how most frames pedal in the 22t ring.
