...seems like a bunch of peeps on this board have expressed some interest from time to time regarding Hadley Hubs. In particular, the difficulty with which they are maintained &/ or bearings replaced. I pulled mine apart tonite to inspect & grease...so I snapped a few pics. Ti bits at their finest!

PS. FYI, incase the pics don't imply it, maintenance & reassembly are a snap. Bearings felt great after 2 years of thrashing. Regreased & resumed!

2 years! Wow, mine has been back to the factory twice in the last year. Luckily, they have great CS and are only 1 UPS day away from me. I don't have very good luck with hubs. Come to think of it, I don't have very good luck with ANY bike part.

..out of curiosity, what problems were you having?

Was yours the 108 Pt engagement like the one pictured here?

Chortle. Snort. That's funny. :)

Ya, my hub is the same. Admittedly, I was over-tightening the lock ring on the non-drive side when the hub was coming loose. Suzanne at Hadley explained that it is very easy to over-tighten the ring and bind the bearing causing all kinds of internal problems. She went on to say that the ring should only be tightened in 1 hour increments, if viewed as a clock.

The first time this happened the bearing got pinched and literally blew apart inside the hub...bearings, o-rings and shavings everywhere. The second time wasn't so bad, only seizing the freehub which played games with my chain. Hadley sent out the rebuild parts quickly and I was back in the game in no time.

That shows what you know. It's pretty obvious that I don't have any buddies, nor do I really ride. I just stalk the Turner board looking to criticize a bike that I've never owned.

At least I'm off Tcsheezy's ignore list! Life ain't THAT bad!
Hey JNC, got any more pics? Any idea how easy it is to get those roller bearings removed? I've pulled apart a couple of different types of jubs in my day and that one looks like a nice combo of designs.

maybe that explains the fact that "mine has been back to the factory twice in the last year. I don't have very good luck with hubs. Come to think of it, I don't have very good luck with ANY bike part." so hear dust well guys and gals. dont get hadley hubs cuz if ya fock em up by workin on em like a hack they will fail. was that some sort of chuck norris tuneing trick dusty? ya give it a good roundhouse while you were at it?

i know im openin up a can of worms here (worms.. fitting aint it?) but hes such a punk i just cant help myself! hehehe
Dude... this thread has me drooling... I had been daydreaming all last week (and this one too) about getting some Hadleys... damn. Hard to beat overall.

They're even cheaper than a comparable CK or DT Swiss.... oh, boy!! I gotta fever and the only prescription is Hadley's.

Japanese bearings... delicious. Ti this and that... I've been dreaming about that 10mm TA badly. Damn, I want them more than a new fork. But I gotta accept the fork is the #1 on my list of urgent upgrades.

You laugh about it.... but my wife already has the CC hidden somewhere I don't know and made sure the number is not stored anywhere on the computer and also pulled out of my wallet a little paper where I had allthe necessary data to order something.

She Money-Nazi!!! :D

Which is exactly why I know my CC # by memory (even the 3 digit # off the back). :D

Those Hadley's do look nice. When I replace my King/XM321 rear wheel I will go with Hadley.

Yeah... when the CC hit home, she just took it off from me. So I had no chance.

She's doing the right thing though.... I'd just be rightly dangerous with an internet connection, bike pages and a CC.

Some Hadleys with DT 4.1 and Sapim spokes are way too temping as well as a RS Revelation and a DHXa.... dude, my wife knows me! :D

Back on the thread... I want more pics of the bearing change.

Just for grins.... how are Hope hubs as compared to Hadleys?? No CK for me even if I would have the money, thanks.

....no more pics for now, hub is re-assembled & on the Spot. The bearings (roller & others) in the carrier are accessed through a lock ring similar to what you see on the non-drive side of the hub. Piece-0-cake.

...the Hope Bulbs are decent (front), the rear is not quite there IMHO. Hadley rears are far superior.

If I didn't anticipate a response like this, I wouldn't have admitted my error. However, I thought passing on the tip of micro-adjusting the lock ring would take precedence over protecting my wrenching credentials.

It's cool, you may proceed with your hatred of me(and of Chuck).

as usual ya missed the intent of the words you continually quote. its not that i hate you, its that i dont respect you. to some that may be worse. as far as chuckles, ive never met him so i can only comment on my opinion of his professional abilities and in this case it was his acting i refered to. ok so i made a short joke in there somewhere. id say "low blow" but i dont want it confused with yet another chucky slam.
