Anyone riding in the Guts N Glory 12 hour race in Comfort, Texas on May, 28th??? I think it's at Flat Rock Ranch. Anyone ride it in the past? The hubby and I just moved to southeast Tx, and haven't ridden anything past houston. Can anyone give me an idea of what the trail is like?? Definitly sounds like a fun weekend!!:D

The event is indeed at Flat Rock Ranch., on Memorial Day weekend.

Since you are in the Houston area, I will try to compare the trail to something that you may be used to..... um, it is nothing like Houston riding.

Flat Rock is located in the heart of the Texas Hill Country. There is some descent climbing, and it can be rocky in spots.

26+/- miles of sweet singletrack, and great views. The camping and facilities are good. Hot water showers.

More info on at Grass Roots Texas.com, and as always if you want info about central texas riding, you should check out Austin Bike.com

Cool! Thanks for the info. This is the first 12 hour event for us, and we're doing it as a duo. We just moved down here from Oregon, so hill country sounds fun!! Looking for something challenging, but not super nasty, extremely rocky, tough-to-even-walk, riding on the edge of a cliff, type of stuff. I'll check the website you recommended for elevation gains and stuff. Oh yeah, is it do-able on a hardtail? I'm totally unfamiliar with 99% of Texas, but I know after riding some of the stuff in Oregon, I wished I had an FS!!!

Flat Rock is not nasty. But can be quite physically challenging. Especially in the Texas heat. You WILL need a Camelbak.

The G'nG is a great laid back event. Good first time sorta thing. You will meet a bunch of Texas cyclists.

If you are FS inclined, you will want a FS. If you are a hardtail person, you will handle it fine on a hardtail. It is climbing vs. descending.

Me, I ride it on a rigid hardtail, with or without gears.

Hey Alan,

Are they running the 16/18 mile loop for this?

D

I think that Kyle is using the Upper and the Lower loops.....

But you know how this thing is, pretty laid back. (the serious peeps miss out on the beer)

Like Alan said, it's pretty laid back
do as much or as little as you want

When we setup the first one that was a big thing.. laid back
and free beer, plenty of it!

I haven't made the last couple due to scheduling conflicts..
going to try to come out for this one.... not to compete, but to get in some rideing and hangout
