GT Xizang brake boss questions.

I have an older GT Xizang frame with the brake bosses mounted high. The v-brakes and cantilevers I have don't fit. Anyone know what type brakes this frame takes?

U brakes I think...

If it is an old frame my guess would be that it was meant to use U brakes.
