The recently purchased GT Xizang frame I have has the brake bosses mounted high on the rear triangle and my cantilever or v-brakes don't fit. What type brakes does this thing take?
Thanks.
Funny thing was, with my Xizang it had U- brake bosses rather than the regular canti / V mounting bosses but were in the regular position for canti/ Vs. I got some regular canti style studs made up with U-brake threads on them! (the U brake brake-boss uses a larger diameter thread + the part where the calliper fits on is shorter in overall length and thicker so you can't just slip on a canti/ V brake).
If you don't want to go the U-brake path, from memory you have 2 options*.
You can mount Magura rim brakes onto U-brake bosses by putting the mounting brackets on upside down to reach the rim, or there is an adaptor that screws into the U-brake holes and has brake studs in the correct position to run canti? Vs.
* I've never done either of these myself, but from memory my BMX friends used to talk about modifications to their bikes that had 990 U-brakes, this ment that they could run magura or V brakes on BMXs.
