Gt Peace Ss. . . . . . . . . Small?

so here's the deal. i'm 5'10" and have kind of short legs. i think my standover is about 32.5". nashbar has the small in stock but the medium is gone. can i get away with the small or am i just settling? i like the bike and my current ride is a 26" wheel, 16 inch compact frame. it's always been just on the small side for me but i'm used to it. can i be happy with the small in the 29" or should i wait for a medium? i spoke to nashbar tech and got a couple different answers.
help.
quick.

If memory serves me well the ETT on the GT frames are pretty generous. I think the Small GT Peace has something like a 23 or 23.5" ETT or thereabouts. If that works for you at 5'10" tall you should be golden.
I am 5'5" and ride a small GT Peace 29er which fits me just fine. I think you may be a bit cramped on a small.
I think you would be cramped also. I am 5'11" and have a 32" inseam and both my 29ers are 17" frames. Top tube length of about 23.5" is ideal for me.

don't do it!!!
WHY???
ETT on the Medium is ~24". I'm 5'9" and was comfortable on a Medium Peace 9r. I'd think the small is going to be too small for you.
Was looking at this bike and wondering the same thing. I'm 5'8" with a 32" inseam. Shorter upper body with longer legs. What is anyone riding with similar dimensions?

Thanks,
JD

Hello JD,

I noticed you got your bike the other day. How did the small work out? I'm 5' 8" with a 30" inseam. Is it a good fit or do you wish you purchased a medium?
Thanks,
J
Received it on Monday. Out of the box on the scale at work, it weighed 28lbs with the stock platform pedals and the wire bead Nevegals. Haven't had a chance to complete final fit.

I read a comment in the reviews that someone had an issue with toe overlap. Took a spin around the work parking lot in dress shoes and buzzed my toes.

As soon as I setup with clipless pedals, fit the bike and get a ride on it, I'll report back.
Cool, did you get the blue color also? Nashbar says the green is completely gone.
If you got the blue, how does it look? I'm not feeling that blue into baby blue from the stock online pics.

Thanks again,
J
yeah, grrr, green is gone...i just posted my lament a few moments ago.

i have the medium blue and it's great. looks good. not what i wanted, but no medium green. i'm 5'7" or so, so either i am sure would've been fine. i just wanted both and one to be green. o well. it's the ride that matters. and it's a blast
Yes, I got the green.

Got the fit set and installed clipless pedals. No toe overlap. It's close, probably less than an inch. I wear a 44 shoe with the clips positioned all the way back.

Might need a longer post. Not at the minimum line, but I think the bottom of the post isn't below the bottom of the top tube. If I had gotten the medium frame size, probably would have needed a shorter stem.

Plan to ride a trail Saturday morning.

So, I got out both days over the weekend on the Peace. Really enjoyed riding this bike. I have a C'dale Flash 29 that I use as a race bike and wanted a trainer/backup bike.

Contrary to my prior post, there is a little toe overlap, but I'm not too worried. I thought maybe I could install 170mm cranks, but they're already on the small frame. Swapped out the stock 25.4mm Easton bars/Oury grips for wider 31.8mm Control Tech/Ergon setup. The Easton seemed narrow and the stem is a 31.8 with a plastic shim.

One day ran tires at 28/30psi F/R and 26/28 the next. The lower pressure was much better. Will eventually replace the brakes and the seatpost needs to go. Flexes alot under my 240lbs.

Gonna have fun on this bike.

I wear 45/46 shoes on a small but with platforms, I pretty much have to try to get a hit from overlap(came with 170 cranks, but I have 175s on my 9r multi, with no issue).

Crappy phone pic, gearing is too high for around here so next on the list.
