Check out the South Bay Mountain Bike Club at http://sbmbc.com/. They do group rides like twice a month at Sycamore Canyon and often do rides at Malibu Creek State Park(Bulldog should be a must do).
Also, check with North Ranch Mountain Bikers at http://www.nrmbc.org/. I haven't ridden with them,but I know that there are great trails in the Conejo Valley area.

All these rides should be within about an hours drive of Ventura, I'm not sure if there's anything at all any closer.

As far as trails go, you're within reasonable driving distance to Santa Barbara trails to the north and Newbury Park/Thousand Oaks trails to the south. Check your PM. Post here if you don't know what that means.

Ojai is close to you. Sulphur Mountain and Los Padres trails like Gridley. The clubs mentioned have Ojai on their ride list.

Hey Bro you have to check out Avery's Open Air Bicycles. It is on main st. in Ventura, the BEST bike shop in Ventura County, small shop, but they are always rated the best in the county and were recently featured in Mountain Bike Action. They do group night rides and know the area better than anyone else I know. I will be back in the area in 4 weeks (and counting) can't wait to hit the trails again, I'll look you up then...
