Why isn't it just a rebadged 34 Rhythm? If the Rail damper is better than the GRIP damper then I'd expect to see it in the Z1 also. If it isn't as good then why bother?

Maybe it's somewhat worse but much cheaper? Or much heavier and the Z1 is already heavy enough to turn some people off.

Review says "a lick over 2kg". Marzocchi website is silent about weight: https://www.marzocchi.com/forks/bomber-z2/black.aspx?idC=62429

This MTBR post has weights for F34 Ryhthm and Factory. 1927g and 1797g respectively: https://forums.mtbr.com/shocks-susp...-rhythm-34-weight-120mm-29-boost-1040803.html

Wasn't referring to the weight of the Z2 vs 34 Rhythm but wondering why they're using the GRIP damper in the Z1 rather than this new Rail damper. No IFP in the Rail damper so it's probably cheaper but maybe doesn't have the performance for longer travel applications.
