Hello. I was wondering what everyone's opinion is on a weight limit for 24 spoke gravel wheels? I was specifically looking at Santa Cruz Reserve 22 carbon wheels. I reached out to get a response from them, but they have not replied yet.

This all depends. Why don't you just tell us what you weigh, where you're planning on riding, and what tires you have in mind?

I am 6'4" 260 lbs. The wheels would be used mostly on paved paths, rails to trail light gravel riding. No single track aggressive riding. I saw on the Reserve website that there is no weight limit, but they still make me nervous. I have Reserve 30's and they are awesome. I like the lifetime warranty, but I would hate to have a problem 50 miles from home if I shouldn't be on them in the first place.

I'm 6'3" 220 lbs. Admittedly, I venture off road a lot more than it sounds like you do, but there's no way in hell I'd be riding 24 spoke wheels. I mean... why would you do that? FWIW, I ride 32 spoke wheels.

I hear ya. I have multiple wheel sets and was looking to trim it down to one to simplify life a little. My thinking was a nice carbon set. Plus their lifetime warranty is attractive. Just wish they were 28 hole at least.

I did speak with Santa Cruz and they said their is no weight limit on any set they offer, even on these. They explained that the wheel "system" can handle it because the carbon is stronger.

The availability of Reserves is the biggest issue. If you can find what you're looking for, get them!

I searched for Reserves recently for our (wife &I) gravel bikes. Ended up with an awesome set of Rovals laced to DT hubs. Yes, the warranty is not on par with SantaCruz. However, neither is the MSRP. The Roval wheelsets' MSRP came in at just under $1k.

The Rovals are a great value.

Same height and weight here. However, my gravel machine came with 24 spoke F n R (DT Swiss G1800) and I've been really pounding it on single track with no issue (only 40mm tyres). When I build some deepset carbons I'll probably got 28 rear, just because I can, but the 24 have held up fine.

Yep. Not saying it won't work. Just saying that there's more risk with the low spoke counts.
